How deadly is the Chilliwack Chiefs' power play?

The Prince George Spruce Kings found out the hard way it is indeed a killer and it cost them dearly Saturday in a 5-2 loss to the BC Hockey League’s Coastal Conference leaders.

The Chiefs went 4-for-4 on the power play and scored four unanswered goals to overcome a 2-1 deficit.

Brady Milburn knotted the score at two apiece with his second goal of the game with 57 seconds left in the second period with a Spruce King in the penalty box.

Then in the third period it was the Carter Anderson show. He scored consecutive power-play goals to start the period and ended the drama with an empty-netter with 1:32 left on the clock. Anderson also assisted on Milburn’s tying goal, to finish with a four-point game.

Anderson, a 20-year-old forward from Thompson, Man., who started the season with the Flin Flon Bombers (SJHL), now has nine goals and 13 points in just 10 games with the Chiefs.

The Spruce Kings were unable to score during any of their three power-play opportunities.

They were outshot 34-24 and Sebastien Gatto earned the win in the Chilliwack nets. Ryder Green took the loss.

Saturday’s win solidified the Chiefs’ stake on first place in the conference. They improved to 21-7-3-0 and are now 21 points ahead of the ninth-place Spruce Kings (10-17-3-1).

The Spruce Kings return to Kopar Memorial Arena for a weekend doubleheader Friday and Saturday against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
