In his first B.C. Hockey League game, Luke Gordon didn't waste the opportunity to impress his new team.

Summoned from the Prince George-based Cariboo Cougars as a midget call-up to join the Westside Warriors for their first game this season at the Coliseum, Gordon scored the winning goal in a 6-3 triumph Thursday over the Prince George Spruce Kings.

The 16-year-old forward from Terrace tipped in a shot past Kings' goalie Alex Wright to make it a 4-0 game, 2:35 into the second period. The Warriors scored two more in the period to hand the Kings their 17th loss of the season. Gordon's goal spelled the end of the night for Wright, replaced by Kirk Thompson after letting in four goals on 10 shots.

Tyler Brickler, Travis Blanleil, Max French, Tyler Krause, and Quinn Gould also scored for the Warriors (11-9-1-1) who improved their grip on fifth place in the Interior Conference, 10 points ahead of the Spruce Kings (6-17-0-2).

Justin Fillion connected on a power-play chance late in the second period to get the Kings started. Faiz Khan and Brendon Fornwald also scored. The Warriors replaced goalie Kevin Boyle with Cam Gorchynski after Fornwold's goal, 4:52 into the third period

The Kings now turn their attentions to the Interior-leading Trail Smoke Eaters. The Smokies play in the Coliseum tonight (7 p.m.) and Sunday afternoon (3 p.m.).
