Eighteeen-year-old defenceman Aidan Brook is now a member of the Prince George Cougars. The Cougars acquired Brook in a trade Friday from the Medicine Hat Tigers.

The Prince George Cougars were busy on the trade front Friday.

They completed a deal with the Medicine Hat Tigers to acquire 2003-born defenceman Aiden Brook in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick in the 2021 draft in December.

“Our scouting staff have watched him for quite some time and identified him as a good fit for our blueline,” said Cougars head coach and general manager Mark Lamb.

“He’s a right-hand shot defenceman that we feel can come in and make an impact now and has a lot of potential going forward.”

The 18-year-old from Roblin, Man., has played seven games this season for the Tigers and was held without a point. He had one assist in 17 games for Medicine Hat in the 2021 pod season. Brook was selected by the Seattle Thunderbirds in the fourth round of the 2018 WHL draft, 76th overall.

Brook has two older brothers with WHL ties. His older brother Josh played for the Moose Jaw Warriors and is on the Montreal Canadiens’ prospect list. His 22-year-old brother Josh played four seasons with the Moose Jaw Warriors and was picked in the second round by the Montreal Canadiens in 2017. He now plays in the AHL for the Laval Rocket. His 19-year-old brother Jakob is a left winger with the Regina Pats.

Following the trade, the Cougars roster stands at 23 players, including eight defencemen, 13 forwards and two goalies.

The Cougars are playing the Kelowna Rockets tonight and Saturday at CN Centre.

During Saturday’s game the Cougars are offering their first Mega 50-50 draw and one lucky ticket holder will go home with at least $40,000. Proceeds will be donated to the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.
