The Western Hockey League announced Friday that Prince George Cougars assistant coach Carter Rigby has been suspended for violating the league’s Standards of Conduct on the use of insensitive language.
The suspension will take effect for the Cougars’ season-opening game Sept. 20 at CN Centre against the Spokane Chiefs.
Rigby will be eligible to return behind the bench for the Cougars’ fourth game of the season in Wenatchee.
“The WHL and Prince George Cougars are committed to holding players and staff to the highest standards of conduct both on and off the ice,” said the league, in a media release.
“There will be no further comment at this time.”
The Cougars hired Rigby, a 30-year-old native of Penticton, in September 2022, after he served three seasons as head coach of the Osoyoos Coyotes of the KIJHL.
He played five seasons in the WHL as a forward with the Cougars, Kelowna Rockets and Swift Current Broncos.
