The Prince George Cougars(3-2-0-0) kicked off their season opening road trip Friday with a thrilling 4-3 shootout victory over the Vancouver Giants at the Langley Events Centre.

Carter MacAdams had the shootout winner in the sixth round to help the Cougars to victory.

Vancouver opened the scoring just over 14 minutes into the game as a Ty Halaburda shot from the right circle put the Giants ahead after the opening twenty-minutes.

Prince George was able to get it back in the second, courtesy of a highlight reel goal from Chase Wheatcroft going through the legs and around the defender and picking the top corner on Jesper Vikman to tie it at one. A few minutes later on a Cougar power-play it was a terrific pass from Noah Boyko at the right circle to Koehn Ziemmer in front of the goal and made an incredible tip in tight to make it 2-1.

The Giants were able to find the equalizer in the later stages of the second from Colton Langkow at 16:49.

In the third, Ethan Semeniuk got the scoring started just 26 seconds into the frame to put the Giants back ahead. The Cougars were able to counter once again, as Riley Heidt flicked the puck from the left circle off the pad and through the legs of Vikman to knot the game at three after 60 minutes.

The Cougars got a power-play in the extra frame and came centimetres from ending it when Koehn Ziemmer whistled a wrist shot off the inside of the crossbar.

65 minutes wasn’t enough, as a shootout was needed and goals from Ondrej Becher and Carter MacAdams proved to be the difference and gave the Cougars a 4-3 shootout victory.

The Cougars now wrap up the brief road trip tomorrow night in Everett and Angel of the Winds Arena. Puck drop is slated for 6:05 on 94.3 The Goat and WHL Live.
