In a stunning reversal of fortunes, the Prince George Spruce Kings (26-20-5-1) bounced back from a heartbreaking overtime loss from Friday night's game to earn a resounding victory over the Salmon Arm Silverbacks (27-18-4-2) in the final home game of the regular season for Prince George.
Led by the stellar performance of goaltender Aidan Feddema, who notched his first-ever BCHL shutout, the Spruce Kings secured a much-needed win in a hard-fought contest against the Silverbacks.
Feddema was able to stop all 27 shots the Silverbacks threw at him. On the other side of the ice, Matthew Tovell wasn't so fortunate, as he ended up allowing four goals on 28 shots from the Spruce Kings, including a pair of powerplay goals.
In the first period, within a span of just 12 minutes, the Spruce Kings faced three penalties, which they killed off successfully.
Moments after the third penalty to the Spruce kings was killed off, the Spruce Kings would get a man advantage of their own where forward Kilian McGregor-Bennet backhanded it in to open the scoring on the powerplay.
The score was 1-0 for the Spruce Kings going into the first intermission.
Five minutes into the middle frame, the Spruce Kings would go to the powerplay once again where Kai Greaves would connect a pass with Austin Fraser at the top of the circle and Fraser fired it home past Tovell to make the Spruce Kings go two for two on the man advantage and give them a two nothing lead.
Through 40 minutes of play, the Spruce Kings held a 2-0 lead.
In the third period, Ty Gagno and Jake Schneider entered the Silverbacks zone where Gagno decided not to pass it to his teammate Schneider and Gagno instead sniped the puck past Tovell to extend the Spruce Kings lead to 3-0.
10 minutes later, Owen Goodbrand got the puck off the end boards and centred it right to Schneider where he one-timed into the back of the net sealing the Spruce Kings' 4-0 victory over Salmon Arm.
With this victory, Prince George knots themselves up for points in the standings with fourth place West Kelowna with 58 points, however, the Warriors will keep that fourth home-playoff spot for the time being having won the season series against Prince George.
The Spruce Kings close out the regular season with a doubleheader against the third-best team in the BCHL, the Cranbrook Bucks.
