Jennifer Fewster and Patti Knezevic had both hoped for better.
The two local skips completed play at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts women's provincial curling championship Friday in Cloverdale. Both rinks compiled 3-6 records and didn't qualify for the playoffs.
"At last year's Scotties, Fewster went 6-3 and did advance to the playoff round.
"We had a little bit of struggles with ice and rocks," Fewster said after a 7-4 Friday setback to former Canadian and world champion Kelley Law. "We were comparing this year to last year, and this year we were just on the wrong side of the inch. Last year we were getting those little extra flops and being a little tighter on our freezes. Things just went a lot better for us last year compared to this time around."
Fewster's wins came against Jill Winters of Nelson (10-2), Karla Thompson of Kamloops (5-3) and Adina Tasaka of New Westminster (5-4).
The other members of the Fewster rink are Kristen Fewster, Blaine Richards and Amber Cheveldave.
Knezevic's Friday result was a tough one to swallow. In an extra end, while in possession of the hammer, she surrendered a steal of three and lost 9-6 to Tasaka.
Late Thursday night, Knezevic edged Winters 8-7.
During the week, Knezevic also beat Nicole Backe of Nanaimo 7-5 and defeated Fewster 8-5.
Knezevic's team includes Brenda Garvey and Chelan Cotter of Kamloops and Rhonda Camozzi of Prince George.
