Kerswill named as new UNBC athletics director

The University of Northern British Columbia announced the hiring of a new director of athletics and recreation on Tuesday.

The University of Northern British Columbia announced the hiring of a new director of athletics and recreation on Tuesday.

Jason Kerswill, who spent the past two years as athletic director at Edge School in Calgary, fills a post at UNBC that has been vacant since last September, when Len McNamara was dismissed without cause.

Kerswill has a master's degree in human kinetics, with a specialization in sport administration. He obtained a bachelor's degree at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia. While at St. FX, he helped the men's basketball team win two national championships and was named an Academic All-Canadian four times.

Edge School is a private academic and athletics academy for students in Grades 6 to 12. Sports programs it offers are hockey, soccer, golf and dance.
