The Prince George Kodiaks were reminded what they're up against once the get to the 16-and-under boys club volleyball provincial championship.
Chances are, the Kodiaks will have to get find a way to get through Seafair and Fraser Valley in their path the provincial gold at the tournament in Abbotsford, May 7-8. Both those teams gave the Kodiaks trouble this past weekend, the only real adversity the Prince George team faced in six matches at the Super Series tournament in Kelowna,
Coached by Jay Guillet, the Kodiaks finished the weekend on a high, beating Apex of Penticton in straight sets (25-14, 25-19) in the bronze-medal match. That came right after the Kodiaks lost in the semifinal round to Seafair of Richmond, 25-18, 25-12. The only other defeat for the Kodiaks at the 16-team tournament came in their opener, a 25-16, 25-12 loss to Fraser Valley.
In between those two matchups, the Kodiaks beat Apex (25-19, 26-24) Kelowna Klutch (25-13, 25-20) and Spokane (25-21, 28-26, 15-9).
"It was a great weekend for us," Gullet. "We got to play No. 1-ranked Fraser Valley and No. 2 -ranked Seaside. Apex won the first Super Series and we beat them twice. Three of the four teams that advanced to semifinals were out of our pool.
"I'd say we'll be ranked in the top four or five (in the province), for sure. The top eight teams are close."
