Local ladies preparing to roll for Canadian crown

As five-pin bowlers, these ladies aren't short on experience. But, next month in Winnipeg, they'll be trying something absolutely new. For the first time in their careers, Norma Johnson, Irene Cass and Claire Prive will be rolling for national gold.

As five-pin bowlers, these ladies aren't short on experience. But, next month in Winnipeg, they'll be trying something absolutely new.

For the first time in their careers, Norma Johnson, Irene Cass and Claire Prive will be rolling for national gold.

Johnson and her Nechako Lanes teammates will be the B.C. representatives at the Club 55+ national championships, June 22-25 in the Manitoba capital.

"It's going to be awesome," said the 64-year-old Johnson, who is in her 53rd season of bowling.

"I really want to make it all the way now. I'm going, 'Oh, this is my only shot, I've got to make the best of it.' I'm really excited about it. Practice is important so I'm going to get the girls on board with this. I believe if you wish it and dream it, you can do it."
