Five years ago, Ashley McMillan picked basketball as her athletic focus. She also decided that, one day, she wanted to play the game at the post-secondary level.

She's on the verge of realizing her goal.

McMillan, a recent graduate of D.P. Todd secondary school, has a full athletic scholarship to the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, located in Edmonton. She and her family will be moving from Prince George to the Sherwood Park area of Edmonton at the end of the month.

"It's going to be a good change," said the 18-year-old McMillan. "I've never lived somewhere really big so it will be interesting to see whether I like it better than Prince George size.

"I'm excited to take the next big step (in basketball)," she added. "I've been wanting to do it for a really long time and it will be nice to try and raise my game to that level."
