The College Heights Cougars had a good week of practice and came to the high school football field at Masich Place Stadium Friday night thinking they had an answer for the Nechako Valley Vikings, who came in as the favourites to win the P.G. Bowl.
No matter what the Cougars tried they couldn’t uncork their offence.
They couldn’t run the ball, they couldn’t complete passes and they couldn’t stop the Vikings from seizing a 26-0 victory to claim the Matt Pearce Memorial Trophy, ending their 12-year drought as champions of the B.C. Secondary School Football Association North Conference title.
Dexter Malo, Cole Malo, Cooper Ziler and Lucas Thomson all contributed touchdowns for the visitors from Vanderhoof, who earned a bye into the BCSSFA quarterfinals Nov. 18 against the winner of next weekend’s playoff in Kamloops between Westsyde and the Prince George Polars.
The Polars claimed the No. 3 seed in the North when they steamrolled the Shas Ti Kelly Road Grizzlies 54-0 in the early game Friday at Masich.
The Cougars aren’t done yet. They will host South Kamloops next Saturday in a playoff game at Masich.
