Stuart Neatby has joined the Citizen newsroom staff.
Neatby originally hails from Prince Edward Island and is a recent convert to both journalism and the West Coast.
He has worked a variety of careers ranging from actor, to hotel bellman, to union staffer.
He recently graduated from the Langara College school of journalism and has since worked for the Vancouver Sun and Metro Vancouver.
Earlier this year, Neatby was the co-recipient of the Langara's Read-Mercer Journalism Fellowship. The result of that fellowship was a four-part series for the Sun on how B.C.'s post-secondary institutions are recruiting international students to help deal with government funding shortfalls.
His other freelance work has appeared in the Mission City Record, Briarpatch Magazine, The Coast and the Halifax Chronicle-Herald. When offline, he enjoys hiking, boxing, running and other active pursuits.
"We're excited to have Stuart with us," said Neil Godbout, The Citizen's editor-in-chief. "We're confident he'll produce the award-winning local journalism that area residents expect from The Citizen."
Neatby will cover general news, with a focus on health and education.
