The Thomson Rivers University program announced Thursday that Prince George high school standout Nick Balazs has agreed to join coach Pat Hennelly's team, heading there next fall after he finishes up his prep days at D.P. Todd secondary school.

"I chose TRU because it seems to be the best fit for me," Balazs said in a statement released by the school.

"The town is smaller, about the same size as Prince George, and I think I will get more individual attention in classes and in practice than a big school down south. I like Pat Hennelly and the way he coaches. Pat has shown that he has a long-term vision for building a successful team that can stay at the top level of volleyball in Canada."

Balazs will join Prince George products Colin Carson and Spencer Reed on the roster. Graham Allard is among those who have suited up for TRU's team in the past.

Balazs, a six-foot-six middle/right-side who has yet to celebrate his 18th birthday, is eyeing a physical education degree. He had considered schools such as Grande Prairie Regional College, Camosun College, UBC-Okanagan and the University of the Fraser Valley.

Balazs was part of a D.P. Todd team that finished ninth at the provincials.
