The Prince George Minor Hockey Association wrapped up their season on Thursday night with the U13 Tier 1, U13 Tier 2, U15 Tier 2, and U18 divisions all playing their respective championship final games.
In the U13 division, the Tigers defeated the Gators by a score of 9-2 in the Tier 1 final. In the Tier 2 final, the Panthers defeated the Blackhawks by a score of 3-1.
In the U15 division, the Black Panthers defeated the Grey Rhinos by a score of 7-4 in the Tier 2 final. The Tier 1 final was played on Sunday afternoon and the Yetis defeated the Gators by a score of 3-2 in the shootout.
The U18 final was the last game of the night and was the most thrilling of the bunch. The PG Kings got off to a strong start and built up a 3-1 victory and Northland Water and Sewer Services battled back and tied the game 3-3 with about 7 minutes in the third period. The Kings then scored giving them a the one-goal lead again but with Northland on the power play and with the goalie sitting on the bench for the extra attacker, they potted a goal of their own with under a minute on the clock in regulation. The two teams went to the 3-on-3 five-minute overtime period and fought back and forth with good scoring chances coming from both sides until Northland picked up the puck at centre ice and skated in on a breakaway ripping a shot that tickled the twine sending the water bottle flying through the air with 50.8 seconds left on the clock to complete the comeback and claiming the U18 Recreation division title with a 5-4 OT win.
