The PGSS Athletics Wall of Fame has room for more names.

With that in mind, the school's athletics department is asking the general public to submit nominations in the player and coach/builder categories. Criteria are as follows: player -- must have attended PGSS for a minimum of one academic year; must have made a significant contribution to the sports community in general or have achieved a level of excellence in a chosen sport; and must have been graduated for a minimum of two academic years prior to nomination; coach/builder -- acted as a coach for at least one PGSS team, for a minimum of one season; and can be active or inactive in the chosen sport.

The wall of fame program, initiated by PGSS teacher and coach Rob Lewis, has been running for two years. The wall has seven names on it and is located by the entrance to the PGSS gymnasium.

Joe Flavel, athletic director at the school, said reaction to the wall of fame has been very positive.

"Staff and people who visit the school for tournaments have really enjoyed looking back and seeing some of the people they've known and watched along the way," Flavel said.

To date, wall of fame members are Randy Wagner (volleyball), Brian Campbell (lacrosse/community coaching), Jennifer Seemann (basketball), Soili Smith (basketball), Loralyn Murdoch (basketball), Matt Pearce (football) and Ron Thorsen (basketball).

The deadline for nominations is April 1. Nomination forms can be found on the PGSS website (www.pgss.sd57.bc.ca) under 'Athletics.' Forms can be printed and then submitted by fax (250-564-4085) or via e-mail to [email protected].
