Prince George Cougars goalie signs with Vancouver Canucks

Nineteen-year-old netminder back in fold with Cougars for weekend set in Victoria against Royals

Ty Young has obviously impressed the brass of the Vancouver Canucks.

After watching him stop pucks at his second NHL training camp, the Canucks have signed the 19-year-old Prince George Cougars goalie to a three-year entry-level contract.

“Ty has made some improvements since we drafted him last year and we were pleased to see him play meaningful games in the WHL playoffs,” said Canucks general manager Patrick Allvin, in a team release.

“He has good size and our goalie development team see a lot of potential in his game if he continues to put in the work and follow the plan we have put in place for him moving forward.”

Young, a six-foot-three, 184-pound native of Coaldale, Alta., was picked in the fifth round of the 2022 NHL draft, 144th overall, in 2022.

The Canucks have returned Young to the Cougars for the rest of the 2023-24 season and he is expected to play in Victoria this weekend, where Prince George will take on the Royals Friday and Saturday.
