Prince George Kodiaks roster includes 28 local football players

BC Football Conference season starts against Okanagan Sun tonight at 7 p.m. at Masich Place Stadium

When the Prince George Kodiaks take to the field at Masich Place Stadium tonight to take on the Okanagan Sun in their BCFC season opener, 26 Kodiaks players will be representing their hometown team.

That list of P.G. boys includes quarterbacks Andrew Johnson and Quinn Neukomm; receivers Taeman Piddocke, Carson Briere, Aidan Lewis, TJ Nyberg, Kayle Cowley, Logan Devauld, Peter Nyce, Liam Quinlan, Aman Bansal, Riden Mayhew and Jerome Erickson; tight end Kameron Shoesmith; defensive backs Hayden Matheson, Isaac Slavik, Carson Flynn, Robert Hawkins and Peyton Briere; linebackers Nicholas Tremblay, Braeden Reed, Levi Martin and Nicholas Krawczyk; and offensive linemen Conor Johnson and Connor Sherlock.

Spencer Rodgers, a defensive lineman from Prince George, will start the season on injured reserve.

In addition, that list of locals includes Hixon native Jason Kragt, back for another year on the Kodiaks’ defensive line, and Vanderhoof native Kameron Shoesmith, who will line up at tight end with the offence.

The Prince George opening-day roster has 28 players from Alberta , 13 from Ontario, nine from Saskatchewan, seven from Manitoba, one from Quebec and one from Prince Edward Island.

The Kodiaks have also dipped into the international talent pool – offensive lineman Jaden Bridgers is from Federal Way, Wash. - and there are two from Leeds, England – defensive back Oscar O’Connor and defensive end Theo Grant.

The opening kickoff today is set for 7 p.m.
