This has been a great week for 16-year-old hockey forward Jaxon Larmand.

On Sunday, his Cariboo Cougars defeated the Vancouver North West Hawks 2-1 in their semifinal series to advance to the U18 triple-A BC Elite Hockey League championship series.

On Monday, the Prince George Cougars announced the 16 year-old native of Prince George has signed a standard Western Hockey League scholarship and development agreement.

Larmand has been one of the most prolific pointgetters in the BCEHL this season and that had continued in the Cariboo Cougars’ current playoff run. He finished fifth in league scoring with 57 points, scoring 28 goals in 36 games. He also has four goals and three assists in five playoff games.

In 72 games over two seasons with the U18s he has 40 goal and 40 assists.

“Jaxon has made tremendous strides in his development since we first listed him, and his strong season with the Cariboo Cougars is a testament to his hard work and dedication,” said Bob Simmonds, the WHJL Cougars’ director of scouting.

“He has earned this opportunity, and we’re thrilled to bring a homegrown talent into the Cougars family. Welcoming Jaxon and his family to our organization is truly exciting, and we look forward to seeing his continued growth with us.”

The Cariboo Cougars begin their best-of-three championship series Friday at 7:45 p.m. at Kin 1 against the Okanagan Rockets.
