College Heights Secondary School basketball player Summer Toor has committed to the UNBC Timberwolves women’s basketball program for the 2025-26 season, the university announced Wednesday.
Toor, a 5’6” shooting guard, is currently finishing her senior year with the College Heights Cougars under head coach Wade Loukes. In addition to her high school career, Toor plays club basketball with the Bounce Sports Academy, coached by Jordan Yu.
A two-time City All-Star and three-time City champion, Toor has proven herself as one of the top players in the region, UNBC reports. She averaged 15 points per game and 4.5 three-pointers per game during the 2024 Provincials, showcasing her sharpshooting ability.
"I chose UNBC because it’s in my hometown. Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to play at the highest level here, and I’m so excited to start playing for the Timberwolves," said Toor, who grew up watching her mother, a former high-level player, inspire her love for basketball.
UNBC Timberwolves head coach Sergey Shchepotkin, who has closely followed Toor’s career, was a key factor in her decision to join the team. “Sergey is a great coach. I’ve watched a lot of his games and really like his coaching style,” said Toor. “He saw my strengths, especially my three-point shooting, speed, and passing, and I’m looking forward to playing under him.”
Shchepotkin expressed his enthusiasm about adding Toor to the Timberwolves roster. “Summer is one of the top local players in her age group, and we’re excited to have her committed to play for her hometown team,” he said. “Her shooting ability and basketball IQ will be huge assets to our backcourt in the seasons ahead.”
As her final high school season progresses, Toor is focused on preparing for the next level. “University basketball is a lot faster than high school, so I’ll need to work on speeding up my game,” she said. “I also need to work on driving to the rim, especially considering my height.”
Toor joins a growing list of homegrown talent at UNBC, including Brynn Dergousoff and Sophia Fuller, and is eager to wear the Timberwolves jersey for the first time. “When I put on the jersey, it’s going to feel amazing,” Toor concluded. “Having my family and friends in the crowd will definitely boost my confidence, and I can’t wait for that moment.”
