The UNBC Timberwolves women's basketball team will wear special new pink uniforms for a game next week.
The team will wear pink on Shoot for the Cure Night, Friday, Feb. 14.
Both sides of the jersey feature names of parents, grandparents, siblings, friends and colleagues who have been affected by cancer, the team stated in the announcement Friday, Feb. 7. While some of those people have survived, others are gone, but all had a lasting impact, the team states.
All of the names on the jersey, which was created by the OneTEAM Sports Group, were chosen by current and former UNBC women's basketball players.
"Being able to look at a UNBC Women's Basketball jersey and see the names of loved ones can hopefully serve as a source of inspiration and hope as we continue to make every effort to find a cure for cancer," stated Loralyn Murdoch, director of athletics and recreation for UNBC. "The Shoot for the Cure initiative is close to the heart, myself included, and I would like to encourage anybody who is able, to support this cause."
Shoot for the Cure has raised more than $1.97 million in donations since its founding in 2007 for the Canadian Cancer Society and other related local and provincial charities to help fight breast cancer.
