Special effort, special results

Prince George Special Olympians find early success at nationals in Ontario

They've made it all the way to the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games and on Wednesday Prince George athletes Jordon Korum and Yvonne LeRuyet did our province proud.

They made upright pins an endangered species on the 5-pin bowling lanes in London, Ont.

Korum competed in Division 1 on opening day and after seven games had a 173 average. LeRuyet, part of the Division 3 competition, averaged 148 in her qualifying games.

Two other Prince George athletes -- Molly Hogan-Thomas and Darcie Muzychka -- performed their opening routines Wednesday in the rhythmic gymnastics event. Their results were not available.

Dee Neukomm of Prince George is also in London coaching Team B.C. in rhythmic gymnastics. It is Neukomm's sixth national event in Special Olympics as a coach.
