Spruce Kings blanked in Quesnel

The post-Christmas period hasn't been much kinder to the Prince George Spruce Kings than those pre-Yuletide days, at least in terms of road results. The Spruce Kings lost 1-0 to the Millionaires in Quesnel on Thursday, blanked by Adam Harris.

The post-Christmas period hasn't been much kinder to the Prince George Spruce Kings than those pre-Yuletide days, at least in terms of road results.

The Spruce Kings lost 1-0 to the Millionaires in Quesnel on Thursday, blanked by Adam Harris.

Derek Huisman's power-play goal in the first period held up as the lone marker. Huisman scored with Nic DeSousa in the penalty box for cross-checking.

The Spruce Kings outshot the Millionaires 35-26. Cameron Large took the hard-luck loss in goal.

The announced attendance was 770.

On Wednesday night, in front of an announced Coliseum crowd of 675 and in a game that featured just 28 minutes in penalties, Justin Fillion and RJay Berra set up DeSousa's winner in the second overtime period, giving the Kings a 3-2 decision and just their second victory in eight games in December. The other win was also against Quesnel. Quesnel had a 2-0 lead going to the third period, the goals from Malcolm Gould and Anderson White, before Jujhar Khaira and Connor Tiechko put pucks behind Millionaires goaltender Bryton Udy, a draft pick of the WHL's Prince George Cougars.

The Spruce Kings, last overall in the BCHL at 8-33-0-2, are now 2-11 since Ed Dempsey was fired as coach and general manager in late November. The Kings have given up 206 goals against this season, far and away the highest number in the 16-team league, and are 2-20-0-1 away from home.
