Spruce Kings split pre-season weekend against Langley

The teams were set to face off again Saturday afternoon

The Prince George Spruce Kings lost to the visiting Langley Rivermen Friday night at Kopar Memorial Arena, then rebounded Saturday afternoon to beat them 3-1 in a preseason rematch.

Following a scoreless first period which saw the Spruce Kings go 0 for 4 on the man advantage, it was the Rivermen who opened the scoring early in the second period Saturdy.

Hunter Curtis received a pass at the right point and fired one towards the goal which slipped past a pair of moving Spruce Kings and beat the glove of Ryder Green to make it 1-0.

The Spruce Kings would tie the game on their 7th power play of the night, as Ryan Wachtel found the top corner off a pass from Ty Paisley. Vital Dinis drew the second assist.

The Spruce Kings had a 28-12 edge in shots on goal after 40 minutes.

Halfway through the 3rd period, Langley goaltender Brayden Burrows got caught with the puck in his skates beside the net, and sent a backhand pass that was intercepted by Cooper Williams who banked it off Burrows and gave the Spruce Kings the lead.

Two minutes later, the Spruce Kings capitalized on their 9th power play, as Brogan McNeil finished a 3-way passing play from Kazumo Sasaki and Maks Perčič.

The team opens the season Friday on the road in Surrey, taking on the Eagles, the defending BCHL champions.
