The Langley Rivermen scored two goals in the final four minutes and left the rink with a 5-4 triumph over the Prince George Spruce Kings in the first of weekend doubleheader at Kopar Memorial Arena.

Ilya Rogavsky tied the game on a Rivermen power play with 4:03 left in the third period and Langley defenceman Ty Creech picked an opportune time to score his first of the season with 2:40 before the final buzzer to cinch the win.

Will Moore led the Spruce Kings’ charge with a three-goal game. He scored his second of the night 7:07 into the third period and followed that 1:42 later with his eighth of the season, which tied him for the team lead.

Kings forward Brock Cummings opened the scoring 28 seconds into the second period and the teams traded goals the rest of the period. Langley sandwiched goals from Ethan Merner and Ryyan Schelling around Moore’s first of the game and the teams were tied 2-2 after 40 minutes.

Schelling also had two assists and was selected as the game’s first star.

Charlie Trill stopped 24 of 28 shots to notch his seventh win of the season.

Ryder Green took the loss in net for Prince George. The Kings were outshot 32-28.

The Rivermen have won all four games against the Spruce Kings this season.

The Kings will get another shot at them Saturday (6 p.m.).

Fans are asked to bring a wrapped donation of winter clothing for Drop the Gloves and Sock It To ‘Em promotion at Kopar, in support of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Those clothing items will be thrown onto the ice right after the Spruce Kings score their first goal.
