Spruce Kings preparing for camp at Prince George Coliseum

The Prince George Spruce Kings 51st season is rapidly approaching.

A junior hockey team born in 1972, the Spruce Kings are hosting training camp sessions this weekend at the Prince George Coliseum.

The players will be divided into two teams for the three-day camp, which starts with practices on Friday. Team White will be on the ice starting at 4 p.m., followed by a Team Red practice at 5:45 p.m.

More practices are set for Saturday, Team White at 10 a.m., followed up by Team Red at 11:45. That will lead into a Red-versus-White scrimmage Saturday at 6 p.m.

On Sunday, Team White will practice at 10 a.m., followed up by a Team Red practice at 11:15. The teams meet in a final training camp scrimmage Sunday at 5 p.m.

The Spruce Kings are scheduled to play their first preseason game on Thursday, Sept. 8 in Merritt against the Centennials. The B/C. Hockey League preseason resumes for the Spruce Kings on Thursday, Sept. 15 ( 7 p.m.) at the Prince George Coliseum, followed by a date with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in Prince George on Friday, Sept. 16 (7 p.m.).

The Spruce Kings open the BCHL season on the road in Coquitlam (Sept. 23) and Langley (Sept. 24).
