The Prince George Spruce Kings have once again tapped into the New Jersey hockey talent pipeline.
They’ve signed 2007-born forward Dominic Szczygiel for the 2025-26 season.
The five-foot-11, 161-pound Szczygiel hails from Avenel, N.J. and has spent the past three seasons with Christian Brothers Academy and New Jersey Rockets AAA program.
His surname is pronounced “S jig yell.”
Playing in the U.S. High School League in New Jersey, he collected 50 goals and 83 assists over three seasons.
The 17-year-old had five goals and five assists in 11 games this season for the 18U Rockets in the Tier 1 Hockey Federation. Last year, in his 16U triple-A season he had 25 goals and 39 assists for 64 points.
Spruce Kings’ 18-year-old right winger Ryan Wachtel is also from New Jersey. His hometown is Rumson.
The Kings have just one game this week, Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. against the Sherwood Park Crusaders. That will be the annual Fan Appreciate Game at Kopar Memorial Arena.
The Source Kings (19-24-4-1) are ninth on the BCHL Coastal Conference, just two points behind the Langley Rivermen (18-21-8-1) for the eighth and final playoff spot. Each team has six games left in the 54-game regular season.
