The Spruce Kings have acquired Colin Reay in a trade from the Vernon Vipers.

The Prince George Spruce Kings know teams that average four goals against per game will not rise to the top of the BC Hockey League standings.

Through 23 games they've given up 94 goals, a 4.09 average.

On Monday, to try to shore up their last line of defence, the Spruce Kings went shopping and acquired 19-year-old goalie Colin Reay from the Vernon Vipers in a deal for future considerations.

Reay, a five-foot-11, 175-pound native of Sherwood Park, Alta., is in his second BCHL season with the Vipers and during that time he posted a respectable 14-9-4 record while averaging 2.85 goals against with a .914 save percentage.

In 11 games playing for Vernon this season, Reay went 3-5-3 with a 3.12 GAA and .897 save percentage.

"We are excited to add Colin to our team. We need to get better at all positions and this addition will help solidify the goaltender spot for us,” said Spruce Kings general manager Mike Hawes. “Colin is a veteran player who is a great teammate and person. He will be leaned upon heavily moving forward.”

This season the Spruce Kings’ goaltending duties have been split between 19-year-old Minnesota native Carter Wishart and 17-year-old Prince George native Ryder Green.

Wishart sports a 4-7-0 record with a 3.86 GAA and .880 save percentage, while Green is 3-6-0 with a 3.62 GAA and .885 save percentage.

The Spruce Kings (7-13-2-1) are back on the road this weekend to visit Victoria on Friday and Cowichan Valley on Saturday.
