Spruce Kings tap Ontario talent pool to recruit forward Vreugdenhil

Frankfort, Ont., native collected 50 points in 55 games this season with Wellington Dukes

The Spruce Kings have recruited 2006-born forward Ben Vreugdehil for the 20205-26 season.

Ben Vreugdenhil is big and he’s a proven junior A hockey point producer and fans of the Princew George Spruce Kings will get to see for themselves what he’s all about next season.

The 2006-born Vreugdenhil has committed to the BCHL team and will be on the move to Prince George this summer to get ready for the 2025-26 season.

Standing six-foot-four and tipping the scales at 220 pounds, the Frankfort, Ont., native played the past two seasons in the Ontario Junior Hockey League with the Wellington Dukes.

He collected 22 goals and 28 assists for 50 points in 55 regular season games this season and had one assist in four playoff games.

"Ben is a well-rounded player who will contribute in all aspects of the game,” said Spruce Kings general manager Mike Hawes. “He's a big player who moves very well. We will look to him to provide offense while playing a solid defensive game. We're thrilled to add him to our group.”

Down 2-0 in their opening-round playoff series with the Chilliwack Chiefs, the Spruce Kings are hoping to see big crowds converging at Kopar Memorial Arena for the next two games in the best-of-seven Coastal Conference quarterfinal Tuesday and Wednesday.

Both games in Chilliwack were close. The Chiefs won Game 1 on Friday 3-2 and posted a 4-2 victory Saturday.

Game time both nights is 7 p.m.
