The Sun Life Financial Cougars took full advantage of their man-advantage situations.

The Cougars, who are hosting the Rona Midget Tier 2 hockey tournament at the Kin Centre, defeated Fort St. John 7-1 in their opening game on Friday. The teams were tied 1-1 after 20 minutes but the Cats then struck for three consecutive power-play goals in the second period and were on their way to the victory. By the time the middle frame ended, they had a 6-1 lead.

"The boys were getting it to the open guy, with quick puck movement and having the guy in the right spot," Cougars head coach Wes Scott said in reference to his club's effectiveness on the power play. "We worked on our power play a little bit at practice this week to try and get better results on the special teams so hopefully that will carry forward through the whole weekend."

Next up for the Cats is a game against Salmon Arm. It will start at 5:45 p.m. at Kin 1.
