It's always fun to win a tournament. It's even more fun when one of the province's powerhouses goes down to defeat in the process.
The Prince George Sun Life Financial midget Cougars captured top spot in a weekend tournament in Kamloops. To claim the title, the Cougars defeated the North Shore Winter Club 6-3 in the final game, led by Travis Creuzot's pair of goals.
Parker Sjodin, Clark Scott, Brendan Doucet and Jordan Huisman had the other Prince George goals, who completed an unbeaten weekend.
In earlier outings, the Cougars defeated Kelowna 7-1, Revelstoke by a score of 5-1, North Shore by a 10-5 count and drubbed North Kootenay 6-1 in a semifinal matchup.
"It was a total team effort," said head coach Wes Scott.
"We had solid goaltending, played well defensively and had scoring up and down the lineup."
The Cougars, who are in first place in the Cariboo League, are slated to skate in a tournament in Quesnel starting Jan. 22.
