Three in a row? Champions in six of the last seven years? The D.P. Todd Trojans' juggernaut shows no signs of weakening.

The D.P. Todd Trojans' juggernaut shows no signs of weakening.

The Trojans senior girls basketball team continued its dominance of the City League, capping an undefeated season with a 72-56 win over the College Heights Cougars in the final Wednesday night at the Northern Sport Centre.

Led by 19-point outbursts from senior forward Piper Hoekstra and Grade 10 forward Tenley Pearce, the Trojans maintained their hold on season bragging rights among Prince George teams, ended the title hopes of the Cougars. College Heights had lost just one game in City League play (to the Trojans) heading into the final.

Hoekstra, one of eight Grade 12 players on the D.P. Todd roster, did everything the Trojans expected of her in the final and was picked as the player of the game.

"Piper tends to do everything well, and she did that in this game," said Trojans coach Reid Roberts. "Tenley Pearce could have been the player of the game -- she blocked a ton of shots and played great. For a Grade 10 in a bog game like that, she played like a senior."

Sydney Hall led the Cougars with 20 points, while Caitriona O'Callaghan contributed 11 for College Heights. Sunita Bansal collected 12 for the Trojans, who led 36-17 at halftime.

"It was close at the beginning," said Roberts. "We were up 11-7 after one quarter and then we went up 20-10 and 30-15 and held on to it. It was never really out of hand."

In the senior boys final, the College Heights Cougars upset the D.P. Todd Trojans 81-77.

It was the only loss of the season for the Trojans in City League play.

They got off to a rough start against the Cougars Wednesday, trailing 34-26 at halftime, but by the end of the third quarter D.P. Todd led 57-55.
