If the UNBC Timberwolves had a do-over chance, they no doubt would want to replay the third quarter of their game Friday in Kamloops against the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack.
Leading their U SPORTS Canada West men’s basketball opponents by a single point at halftime, the TWolves couldn’t do anything right to start the third quarter and the WolfPack took off on a 14-1 run to take over the lead on the way to outscoring UNBC 23-6 in the third quarter.
The TWolves got their act together in the fourth quarter but by then it was too late to recover and they lost 79-65 to drop to 1-12 on the season while the WolfPack improved to 7-8.
Dami Farinloye produced a game-high 24 points, Asher Mayan had 16 and Cyrus Harrison picked up 10 points to lead the TRU attack.
Farinloye, Mayan and Evan Smith each put up six points in that fateful third quarter.
Josh Gillespie’s double-double (15 points, 11 rebounds) and a 21-point game from Evgeny Baukin was not enough to save the TWolves, who lost their fifth straight game.
The teams meet again Saturday at 6 p.m. in Kamloops.
