The UNBC Timberwolves men’s basketball team defeated the nationally ranked UBC Thunderbirds 88-69 on Friday at the Northern Sport Centre.
Veteran Chris Ross reached a new career high with 28 points and matched a previous career best with six successful threes. He added 12 rebounds, two steals and two blocks while Josh Gillespie complimented that performance with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
The same two teams face each other again tonight at 7.
Earlier in the day, in front of an electric crowd of 1,400 energized kids from School District 57, the UNBC women’s basketball team lost 67-46 loss to the visiting UBC Thunderbirds.
Viktoriia Filatova (12), Rebecca Landry (11) and Bella Mesquita (10) all reached double-digits for UNBC while Sveta Boykova pulled in seven rebounds.
The two sides meet again for a Saturday rematch at 5 at the Northern Sport Centre.
