The UNBC Timberwolves basketball teams are back on the court this weekend at the Northern Sport Centre in Prince George.

After a month-long Christmas break, the men’s and women’s teams tip off the second half of the season Friday against the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.

The UNBC men (5-3, sixth in Canada West) went into the break on a two-game roll after sweeping a weekend set in Kelowna with the UBC-Okanagan Heat.

Led by returning guard Evgeny Baukin (15.4 points per game, 11 blocks) and fifth-year-forward Spencer Ledoux (averaging 15.1 points, 5.6 rebounds) the T-wolves are the fourth-highest scoring team in the 17-team league, averaging 81.9 points through eight games.

The UNBC men take on the Pronghorns Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m.

The women (2-6, 12th place) will try to regain their winning touch against a Lethbridge team that’s been hot, having won six straight.

Duchess Park graduate Rebecca Landry leads the T-wolves in scoring, averaging 12.4 points, and her 85.2 per cent free throw average (23-for-27) ranks third-best in Canada West.

Fifth-year forward Svetlana Boykova has an 11.5-point scoring average through eight games and her 8.6 rebounds per game is seventh on the Canada West list.

The UNBC women play Lethbridge Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 5 p.m.
