The Prince George local health area includes Prince George, Mackenzie, McBride, Valemount and the surrounding areas as far north as Kwadacha and south to Hixon.

The other two areas that make up the Northern Health region – the Northwest and Northeast – had 53 cases and 37 cases, respectively, over the past two weeks.

Henry and B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix announced 41 new cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region in a joint statement issued on Friday afternoon. The new cases bring the total number of cases in the region, since the start of the pandemic, to 1,240.

"Today, we are reporting 737 new cases of COVID-19, including six epi-linked cases, for a total of 40,797 cases in British Columbia," Henry and Dix said. "There are 9,589 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. There are 342 individuals currently hospitalized with COVID-19, 87 of whom are in intensive care. "

Public health officials were monitoring 12,008 British Columbians who had potential exposures to COVID-19.

"There have been 11 new COVID-19 related deaths, for a total of 598 deaths in British Columbia," they said. "COVID-19 continues to circulate in our communities and the risk to all of us remains high. This is why it is so important to follow the public health orders and to use our layers of protection until the vaccine is available for all of us."

None of the deaths reported on Friday were linked to the Northern Health region. The pandemic's death toll in the north remained at nine.
