Kirby Hummel was out shopping Wednesday when the call to his wife Carlene came in from Prince George Mayor Lyn Hall.

Hall held in his hand the winning ticket for the Prince George Spruce Kings Show Home Lottery when he broke the news to Carlene that they had won the $610,000 home.

"You have no idea how much this means, he's not going to believe this," said a sobbing Carlene, once it started to sink in that she and her husband had won the grand prize.

Carlene told Mayor Hall that they are originally from Ontario and had moved to Prince George from Lethbridge at the end of May last year.

"So welcome to Prince George," Hall said. "We hope this keeps you here for decades and decades."

Hall then handed the phone to Spruce Kings alumni and board member David Keough, who congratulated Carlene and asked if she and Kirby could come by to collect the keys for their new home and pose for pictures. The house is located in the Aberdeen Glen subdivision at 2643 Links Dr.

Jen McMath of Prince George won the Spruce Kings Mega $50,000 Period 3 50-50 jackpot.

The Show Home Lottery is the community-owned junior A hockey team's biggest annual fundraiser.
