It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Alice Conway, who left us peacefully at the age of 86 on January 5, 2025. Barbara was a beloved daughter, mother, sister, educator and friend.
Born on June 10, 1938, in Mayo Yukon, to Betty and Charlie Taylor. After finishing school in Whitehorse, she moved to Victoria to complete her teaching degree. Here she met and married Ted Conway on December 22, 1964. Shortly after the birth of their daughter, they moved to Prince George, to live in their “Forever Home” on Babine Crescent. As a family, they built a life filled with joy, laughter and love for neighbours and friends.
As a proud parent of a Special Olympian, her daughter Barbie, was the
light of her life. Together they shared their love of God, travel, hockey (Go Cougars!), cooking, gardening and cross-country skiing.
Barbara dedicated over 30 years of her life to teaching. She was a mentor, confidant, and advocate for the growth and well-being of each student she encountered. As a member of the local teaching community, she was valued and respected by her peers.
She was a faithful member of her church family and a dedicated coach and volunteer with Special Olympics. Whether spending time with her close-knit circle of friends or offering support to others, she always gave selflessly. Her infectious smile, loving nature, and ability to make everyone feel seen and heard will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Barbara was predeceased on March 17, 2002, by her dear, husband Ted.
She is survived by her daughter Barbie, sister Verna (Glenn) Hart, nephew Gordon (Rosie) Hart.
Barbara’s life was a beautiful testament of love, kindness, strength and courage. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. “God Bless”
A very special thank you for the medical care given to Barbara by Dr. Javid, Northern Health Palliative team and the loving Angels at Home Hospice and Hospice House. The family asks that donations be made in Barbara’s memory to Home Hospice or Rotary Hospice House Prince George.
