A park style restaurant ideal for Connaught Hill

I fondly remember eating some time ago in a restaurant at the Maritime Museum and Planetarium in Vancouver's Vanier Park.

It also was somewhat off the beaten track with little foot traffic and no public transit nearby. However, the quality of the food and its preparation can only be classed as excellent, plus the prices were so reasonable one was inclined to wonder how it could stay in business without a substantial subsidy.

In fact the food was so good it was almost always packed between 11:15 a.m. and 2 p.m., though nearly empty otherwise.

I was told a couple of times by employees there that it was basically not open to cater to the public but to serve at lunch hour, managerial staff from Vancouver's city hall about four or five miles away and their guests (possibly family members, developers and legal council.)

As I quickly became addicted to superb food at bargain rates and being an Olympic-class ignoramus, I ignored the advice and strolled over in nice weather to enjoy the meals.

I had little fear of being forcibly ejected as kinky, civic employees are more of the pickpocket type than straightforward muggers and should Vancouver police be called, no doubt when word was passed around half of Vancouver's off duty police would show up there for a treat as well.

I would advise anyone looking for a dining experience to go there if it is still in business.

As Prince George is now a pretty big city, I think it is far past time for the city to show the same appreciation of its managerial staff.
