Berman Lake: early season jewel

Hike of the week

This week's hike is another early season jewel that has something for everyone. The trails in the park are often overlooked by visitors, so next time you head to Berman Lake, ensure you leave some time to explore the entire park.

The Berman Lake trails, wind along eskers, cross bridged creeks, and skirt the shoreline of ponds and lakes, all in just three kilometres of trails. The hike can be finished off with a picnic in the large grassy beachfront park.

Directions

From the junction of Highway 16 west and Domano Boulevard in Prince George, drive 38.5 km west. Turn left onto Norman Lake Road and follow this for 2.9 kilometres and turn right into the parking lot.

Trail description

The trails in Berman Lake Regional Park wind through the esker-lined ridges and along the shore of Berman Lake and adjacent ponds.

The trails off to the west cross the outlet creek and follow along a deep kettle shaped depression that is dry during the later part of summer. The trail follows along the top of the ridges for most of this end of the park.

The eastern end of the park has trails that follow along the lake, past a dock, leading to a grassy field, beach and picnic area.

There is good fishing in the lake and the extensive trail system provides lots of shoreline to cast from.
