Canada a great place to live, despite cold

Canada is an amazing country, and those of us who are here must consider ourselves very fortunate and blessed, and must be profusely grateful for those who came here before us, especially European settlers, who have made this such a wonderful place.

I was inspired to make this critical assessment this morning as I drove my son to school. It's been around -25 C for several days now in north-central Canada.

Further north it is likely to be touching -30 and even -40. And still millions of us who live in this wonderful country are warm, alive, and well.

It is important to know this because elsewhere in the world, especially in Europe, scores perished when temperatures dropped to a relatively warmer -20 C.

I thought to myself while making this comparison that we do not thank our social and political leaders enough for all these benefits they accord us through hard work and commitment towards the collective good.

Those who built this nation into the wonderful place it is truly did an amazing job. Living through its severe winters and coming through unscathed must make us all proud of the people whose vision built this nation, and whose commitment to doing good for the nation's people keeps us all alive and well.
