I am writing today to discuss the recent outcry about the homelessness issue in downtown P.G. All the complaining I have been hearing about how much the homeless people of downtown Prince George affects downtown and the businesses. I’ve been hearing how it is not safe to go downtown.
I work downtown and see another side. I don’t see criminals that are to be feared. I see people, human beings that are someone’s brother, sister or child. I see people that have experienced trauma, abuse, addiction and mental health issues.
This is not just a downtown issue but a community issue. We don’t need to turn our heads on them when they need us the most. We need real solutions. We need affordable housing, safe spaces and low barrier shelters with services in place.
A little human compassion will also go a long way.
