Thank you for your editorial and article today on our aging population and the dementia explosion. The BC College of Registered Nurses, the Canadian Registered Nurse's Association, and indeed our local chapter of the Gerontological Nurse's Group have been promoting this concern and information for years. However, the "song" reaches deaf ears much of the time. The support provided to those with dementia by families/neighbors/friends is simply huge, and many times the caregivers become ill (and certainly very tired) due to lack of support. Anything we can do to promote awareness of this crisis is important to all of us, whether we are part of an older age group or still gainfully employed. Our services are presently stressed to the limit. Are we prepared for this?
