So a new arena isn't in the cards for now, thanks to Mayor Rogers, and councillors Frizzel and Munoz.
Does that mean that the city still has to proceed with the absurd concept of totally demolishing Kin 1 and rebuilding it for $16 million?
How about revisiting that ill conceived plan?
Surely the existing stadium can be renovated and roof fixed for far less. Let's get some more proposals and estimates.
The significant dollars saved could then go into a legacy fund as seed money for a new arena in the future.
Maybe the user groups could participate in raising some of the capital as well as exploring other funding sources such provincial, federal and private.
At usage of 100 per cent of capacity, it is abundantly clear that a new arena is needed.
An arena is a quality of life benefit as well as a monetary one for the city since hosting sporting events brings in revenue for local business like hotels and restaurants, which pay taxes that indirectly go towards offsetting the operating costs.
It would be refreshing if city leaders could refrain from being short-sighted for a change.
