Several years ago we had a referendum on a increase in our city taxes for the clearing of windrows in our driveways. Since the majority of the taxpayers didn't think it feasible to have a heart attack to save a few dollars, the referendum passed, our taxes increased, and the windrows have been cleared.
If the city in its infinite wisdom (stupidity?) decides to eliminate the windrow clearing from their snow removal budget, I will eliminate that portion of tax from my city tax bill.
I feel very strongly that it would be illegal to collect a tax or fee for a service that won't be provided anymore, and it would be stupid of me to pay for a service I won't receive.
If the city needs to cut back on the budget, I suggest they eliminate their little jaunts to China, and cut back on Dan Rogers pay, and/or expense account. Judging on his performance, I feel he is overpaid as it is.
This way there would be money left to increase the snow removal budget, and improve the services.
After all we, the taxpayers, are paying for everyone on the city hall payroll, and for the services they are supposed to provide, not for services they won't provide.
