Regarding the story about the new technology to issue parking tickets downtown.

Parking has always been a problem downtown, at times made worse by some business owners and employees who basically hog the on-street parking.

They want us to come downtown to shop, but they make us walk, often times longer distances than necessary.

So now we have this new system that singles out those parked over the three hour limit with a $50 fine for the first infraction.

Welcome, downtown shoppers.

Given that we have winter what is the operator going to do in the middle of winter when snow obscures the license plates?

A ridealong to sweep them off?

And now we have the option, if we think we have been ticketed unfairly, a trip to city hall to argue our case. Simply not an option? No big deal.

Most of what we can purchase downtown, we can pick up at the mall or big box stores that provide free parking. All day long if you wish.

Hey if you have an RV you can even camp out for days in the Walmart parking lot for free.
