RE: Sedan Samaritans' ICBC claim clouded, Prince George Citizen, Feb 11 2010, Page 3

Our top concerns at ICBC are to treat every customer fairly and to respect their privacy. These are absolutes by which we run our business.

We will always try to stay away from commenting on any of our customers' claims publicly. This is true for the simplest of claims involving one vehicle to multiple vehicle crashes involving injuries or worse. Unfortunately, the focus of your article compels us to respond.

We have investigative procedures in place to deal with every claim we receive, from minor to severe, which are there to protect our customers and to help us arrive at the proper decision.

Our investigation into this incident is still taking place and we do not yet have all of the facts. It is complex, involves multiple customers and vehicles, numerous eye witnesses and, most tragically, a fatality. Any claim, but particularly those involving a fatality, must be investigated thoroughly before any decisions are made.

Once we have completed our investigation and have all of the facts we will then be in a position to review the claim and make a final decision. We are working through this claim directly with all of those involved and no one else, out of respect to our customers and grieving family and friends.

We are disappointed that our decision to treat our customers' privacy as our top priority led to an article that very much alludes to us not treating this tragedy in the sensitive and fair manner that it deserves. Nothing could be further from the truth.
