What is happening at IMSS?

I was so sad when I read last Wednesday's paper.

I've reread it several times and shared it with friends who were as confused and outraged as I am.

I have never met Baljit Sethi, but I have always admired her for what she has accomplished with IMSS. We wouldn't have this outstanding organization if she didn't have vision 40 years ago and just went ahead, worked hard and made it happen.

She is "parting ways?" No! She is being kicked out and is seems she is not alone. So after her medical leave she is being forced to retire. That is the same as telling a new mother that after her maternity leave she is being let go. Outrageous!

The president of the IMSS board is afraid that if membership isn't blocked, he and the board may be relieved of their positions. It comes down to that by the comments in the article. It seems he doesn't understand that what is happening to Mrs. Sethi is unjust.

So if people who want to be members "can apply in a few years from now after things settle down and we manage the IMSS and get it back on track," what threw it off track?

Also, according to the society's constitution, "anyone who has legal status in Canada is welcome to join."

There is no mention of the reasons that all this started in the first place. As I said, I'm confused and outraged.
