Make it Happen, Watch it Happen or say What Happened?

Did you know that a 20 unit apartment building the height of the Scotia Bank Building is being proposed for the middle of the 1600 block of 7th Ave? The surrounding buildings will be shadowed by the proposed building that carries none of heritage characteristics that define our very neighborhood. This proposal is 100 per cent contrary to the Crescent Neighborhood Plan (CNP) that was completed Nov. 2003 with significant input from the entire neighborhood and at a cost to us, the taxpaying public. UMA Engineering was the firm hired to carry out the project and the result was a clear and concise guide for future development. Although multifamily developments formed a part of the plan, it was stated throughout the CNP that the development would "consist of a mix of ground-oriented townhouses and apartments". The land use plan clearly states that maximum densities should be limited to 90 units per hectare and be a maximum of four stories.

You have the power to say no to this dangerous precedent to the Crescent Neighborhood Plan as it could be next to your home next time! Let City Hall know. (Deadline is Monday March 1 at noon).

Not in our neighbourhood.

Prince George

Editor's note: The proponent has since reduced the number of units to 18 to meet existing zoning for the property. The building's height will remain at six stories. See related story on today's Citizen.
