Letter to the editor: ISIS making a comeback

I know it is a lot to take in right now, but people need to understand: ISIS is back.

Eleven dead in Israel just in the past week - civilians gunned down in the streets while minding their own business - with the Islamic State claiming responsibility. A sad part of this story is that two of the victims this week were Ukrainian nationals, in Israel trying to escape violence in Europe but tragically gunned down by ISIS.

And so what will this mean? Another war in Israel, either with Hamas or even possibly Iran. I think it can be prevented, but the rest of the world needs to start now to get involved. Isn't that at least one thing we can take away from the Russia Ukraine war? Everyone saw it coming, but nobody moved or said anything. But I can predict now, that when Israel moves to defend itself, people will take to the streets to protest - not against ISIS, not against Hamas - against Israel.

It's maddening and comparable to people protesting against Ukraine for defending itself against Russia's aggression. So this is a chance where we can finally do things differently. We know the threat. We can predict the outcome of passive inactivity. We can choose to say something now, and not wait till the violence crosses whatever arbitrary threshold that is perpetually tolerated. #ISupportIsrael.
